Design Partner

Dedicated to designing the buildings and infrastructure that make communities.

During the 1980’s, Carol undertook a series of projects for the Chicago Public Schools. They were characterized by the challenges on which her studio’s growing reputation was based: tough urban sites, communities trying to solve social and cultural problems, and tight budgets. An example is the Little Village Academy, named for the neighborhood that is the heart of Chicago’s Mexican community. The school is an icon and sanctuary in the community. Little Village Academy was recognized for both its architecture and interiors with Institute Honor Awards. In 1981, Carol started practice in Chicago and continues to work for “noble” clients to this day.

In 1997, Carol was chosen to be the lead designer for the new Oklahoma City Federal Building. It replaces the bombed Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building, in which 168 people perished. The new building is both a philosophical and practical response, with the objective to create a space that is secure and open. Working for public clients, Carol considers herself an architect, as well as the client and an advocate for citizens who cannot be “at the table” and is dedicated to designing the buildings and infrastructure that make communities.
