The American Institute of Architects (AIA) has awarded Carol Ross Barney, FAIA, Design Partner of U+ Design Partners, with Chicago 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award.
According to AIA, the reward is granted to architects “who have made a lasting impact on the practice, the profession and the built environment in Chicago,” by the AIA Chicago’s board of directors. Ms. Barney will officially receive the award on Oct. 13 at the 62nd annual Designight 2017.

As Matthew Dumich, FAIA, president of AIA Chicago’s Board of Directors said, “AIA Chicago is honored to recognize Carol Ross Barney. Ms. Barney is a visionary trailblazer, generous mentor and active leader of the community.” According to Mr. Dumich, “Carol is known as ‘the People’s Architect’ because of her significant contributions to the built environment, which have casted a profound daily impact on the way Chicagoans experience and interact with our city. Ms. Barney has brought accessible, engaging civic architecture, infrastructure and public realm design excellence.”
